Phil Collins to hit the road with Toyota

Phil Collins to hit the road with ToyotaBritish singing star and actor Phil Collins has agreed to hit the road in the United States to help sell cars for Japanese auto giant Toyota, the car company said on Thursday.

The musician, songwriter and former Genesis frontman has struck a deal under which Toyota Motor Sales, USA Inc. will use two of his songs to market their vehicles in the key US market, Toyota said.

Collins new track called "Can't Stop Loving You" -- which will be featured on his next album "Testify," which is due for its US release on November 12 -- will debut in a television commercial for Toyota's 2003 Avalon sedan.

Toyota said it also planned to license one more Collins song for a second Toyota commercial.

In addition, the car company and Collins lable Atlantic Records plan joint marketing promotions and cross-publicity for "Testify," the artists's first solo album in six years.

"We believe in the power of music and its ability to evoke strong feelings," said Steve Sturm, Toyota Motor Sales' vice president for marketing.

"Phil Collins's talent and music continue to captivate and enthrall listeners. We want our vehicles to have the same effect on people, so working with Collins on this campaign was a natural."

Collins struck a chord with Toyota when he performed live at a private concert for 5,000 Toyota dealers and guests last month.

Collins, who released his first solo recording just over 20 years ago, has sold 100 million albums around the world in addition to his success with Genesis.

He has won seven of music's prized Grammy Awards, a best original song Oscar in 2000 for his song from the movie "Tarzan" and a Golden Globe cinema award.
