Atlantic recording artist Phil Collins scores a No. 18 (with a bullet) debut this week with the arrival of his new "Phil Collins...Hits" collection on Sound Scan's "Top Current Albums" chart. In the artist's native Great Britain, the album -- Collins' first-ever best-of-collection of original studio recordings -- has entered the national pop chart at No. 1. In addition, the set has debuted at No. 2 in Canada. Along with its 15 classic songs, "...HITS" features Phil's moving rendition of "True Colors", a new recording of Cyndi Lauper's 1986 hit. The song marks Collins' first collaboration with Babyface, who produced the track and also contributes backing vocals, keyboards & drum programming.
Phil's "True Colors" is enjoying an enthusiastic welcome at AC radio nationwide, where it debuted as the format's No. 1 most-added track; and is now No. 12 (with a bullet) on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart. "True Colors" was also the No. 1 most-added single at NAC outlets across the country, while "...HITS" was the No. 1 most-added on R&R's "NAC/Smooth Jazz Albums" chart.
The U.S. chart arrival of "Phil Collins...Hits" lands amidst a series of high-profile television appearances, including A&E's Live By Request on October 1st and NBC's Today on October 2nd -- both of which featured performances of "True Colors." Phil's fall itinerary also features upcoming appearances on CBS's Late Show With David Letterman on October 28th, the Rosie O'Donnell Show on November 3rd, and CBS This Morning on November 4th. On October 29th, Collins travels to Canada for a whirlwind promotional tour, likewise slated to include a number of national television appearances.
With 80 million records sold around the globe, six-time Grammy Award winner Phil Collins ranks as one of the most popular recording artists of all time. "...Hits" features 16 tracks spanning Collins's solo career to date -- from the signature "In The Air Tonight" (from 1981's solo debut, "Face Value") to the newly recorded "True Colors." Included are songs from all six of Phil's studio albums, as well as songs previously found only on motion picture soundtracks. Among the collection are a dozen top 10 hits, including no less than seven No. 1 singles: "Another Day In Paradise," "Two Hearts," "Against All Odds (Take A Look At Me Now)," "Separate Lives," "One More Night," "Sussudio," and "A Groovy Kind Of Love."
