Phil Collins’ initial post-retirement project will be with … Adele?

When Phil Collins mentioned coming out of his premature retirement last year, the expectation was that he would start working with Genesis again. Or maybe Peter Gabriel. At the very least, Philip Bailey, right?
Instead, Collins has revealed that one of his first new projects since leaving the music business because of back issues will instead be with someone else. Someone very, very famous.

"I’ve just started to work with Adele," Collins tells Dave Aizer. "She contacted me to write together. I actually wasn’t too aware of her. You know, I live in a cave, I think. But she has achieved an incredible amount, and I really love her voice. I love some of that stuff that she’s done."

In the time since Collins departed, following 2010′s Motown tribute effort Going Back, Adele has in fact issued the 16-times platinum 21, — which became the biggest-selling record for both 2011-12 on the strength of a trio of consecutive U.S. No. 1 singles in "Rolling in the Deep," "Someone Like You" and "Set Fire to the Rain."

These days, Collins says he learns about new artists like Adele primarily through his children’s playlists.

"You know, I don’t listen to too much," Collins adds. "I come across things by accident — whether it’s my young kids, Nicholas and Matthew. They listen to music a lot. And Nicholas is a great drummer. So, I’m always interested to see what they are listening to. Lily, the next one up in age, she has good playlists on her iPod. I always think: ‘Oh, there’s nothing too much happening,’ and she plays stuff and I say: ‘What’s that!? That was great!’ So, I find out third hand about some of this stuff. Simon, my oldest son is a musician; he’s playing. He gave me a crash course on what he’s been doing, and that’s great, too. So, the stuff is out there."
