Last night, at the Roundhouse in London, Peter was awarded the Outstanding Contribution to Festivals Award at the 2015 Festival Awards.
The award is in recognition of the special place that the WOMAD Festival continues to hold (after 33 years) in the summer festival calendar both of the UK and around the world.
"I am delighted to be included in the Festival Awards and that the creation of WOMAD is being recognised. It was not an easy birth and I persuaded a group of naive, enthusiastic, world music fans like myself, to set about the tough and complicated journey to become festival promoters. We have always had wonderful people working for the dream that is WOMAD and I am really proud of everything we have achieved."Peter Gabriel
The award was presented to Peter by comedian Eddie Izzard who, as you might expect, gave a brilliantly funny speech that helped complete a great evening.
