Peter Gabriel has truly succeeded in both constantly renewing his sound and pushing himself to create new and varied works.
Originally the lead vocalist with prog-rock superstars Genesis, Gabriel pushed out from the band that gave him his start and popularised the genre of World Music. His work has influenced and shaped such acts as Arcade Fire, Grizzly Bear, The National and more.
Yet, for his Back to Front Tour, Gabriel has gone back to what is considered his most commercially successful album to date. The 1986 album, So, which featured songs such as Sledgehammer, Don't Give Up and In Your Eyes, is the basis for the tour. Gabriel has managed to round up the original touring band from the album and put them into an innovative live show.
Peter Gabriel: Back To Front was filmed late last year in front of The London O2 and features never-before-seen interviews with Gabriel, interviews with his fellow musicians and a look into the recording of the seminal album itself. Directed by Hamish Hamilton, who has worked with every major performer across the globe, it is a unique insight into an often private musician who has influenced a generation since.
