Just discovered your excellent article rather late. I've been listening to Genesis since around 1977 and love their earlier stuff. I'm also a big Steve Hackett fan, but to me it's Banks who is the beating heart of everything innovative Genesis did, and because he was the main composer rather than the main performer his work has often been overlooked. I actually think his reticence, sensitivity and sensible home life make him a bit of a rebel in an industry full of nutcases and egomaniacs. Very much a musician and man I admire. Nice job!
