Cana WadeGenesis show held in Washington D.C. on the 23rd of September. It was AWESOME!!! I have heard a lot about this tour, good and bad, boring and exciting. But to just be in the same room with 'my 5 boys' (as I like to call them) again was great! It felt like seeing old friends again - and the whole night was bittersweet since we don't know what the future holds.
I lost my patience some at the beginning - the show didn't start until 8:45!!! The announcer came on to say that this show was going to be recorded for DVD purposes. And everyone went nuts!!! But then not 5 minutes later, the same announcer guy came on and said that they were having 'technical difficulties' and that they were not sure when the show would start. So I had a little hissy fit but all was forgotten when 'Behind the Lines' thundered from the stage. I was on my feet the whole time - they played till around 11:30. 'Ripples' was kept in - THANK GOD! If they would have replaced this with 'In Too Deep', that would not have been my bathroom break (never took one - didn't want to miss one second of the show!!!) but I still would not have been happy. I thought they did a good job on that one. And to hear 'Carpet Crawlers' live like that - it just about took my breath away! There was a street musician right outside of the stadium that was playing 'Carpet Crawlers' on his guitar as everyone spilled out on to the street after the show. He was pretty good too J
And as we all filed up from the floor (yes - I had floor seats - which was sooooo super cool!) 'Fading Distant Lights' played and it was just so fitting.
Anyhoo, the set list was pretty consistent with what has been talked about, so no surprises there. Loved the background images throughout - my favorite was during 'Follow You, Follow Me' when all their album covers came to life. That was neat to watch. Phil took pictures a lot; Daryl and Mike seemed to be having a good time. And my darling Tony even smiled some!!! We could see in before the show through a small window in the Verizon Center, and we watched the boys do sound check and 'screen' check. Tony and Phil were standing shoulder to shoulder and my guess is the people in charge of the back of the stage screen were just making sure everything worked. But it was so cute to see the two of them standing together and fooling around.
Overall their energy was great, the sound was great and I'm so happy I got to see them together again! I would not have missed it for the world!
