Philippe BédardGenesis was in Montreal yesterday, at the Olympic Stadium.
40,000 fans were there, but there was room for 10,000 more.
The show started at 8:20 PM and finished at 11:00.
The set list was the same as it was in Europe.
The sound was very good, even with the roof.
Phil Collins addressed the crowd in French : it was really appreciated.
Tony Banks didn't smile. But was a great musician !
Mike Rutherford now looks like his muppet from "Spitting Image".
Chester Thompson is still wonderful. Great tandem with Phil.
Daryl Stuermer is excellent for the "new" songs, but he is not Steve Hackett : no one is better than Mister Hackett for playing "Firth of Fifth" and "Ripples" !
This is my humble opinion.
Something unexpected : during "Invisible Touch", Phil replaced "she will mess up your life" with "she will fuck up you life" ! If he does the same in USA, he would end up in jail for that ! ;-)
awesome!! i was sitting at the very last row.........but it was awesome nonetheless. when i heard the first note of 'Home by the Sea' i screamed the name of it like 4 times. i was all nostalgic during 'I Know what i like' and i almost cried at the end of 'the Carpet Crawlers'. all was very good and Phil so funny! and he spoked almost all the time in a great french!
ok now my deception.......and for me its a big one.....during a couple of days i was like ; o my god theyre gonna play 'Tonight tonight, tonigh' its my favorite song! i cant wait to hear my fav part when the bass or something beging (you know when he start to sing: you keep telling me i got every........) i know im gonna have chill runing down my spine!
well , they began to play the song and i was all excited and i was like,; ok, ok its my part! its gonna be right her....................AND THEN THEY BEGAN ANOTHER SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it was invisible touch, it was fun and i like this song but..........WHY DID THEY HAVE TO CUT MY FAV PART OF THE SONG!!!! i almost cried......other than that it was soo cool!
I was also there at the Montreal Olympic Stadium. My 22 years old daughter and me were sitting on the floor seats in the 7th row from the front stage in section A-3. It was wonderful and the sound was excellent. Everything was perfect and I kept telling my daughter that I was in heaven. All day on tv and on the radio they have been playing Geneis' music and it brought me back to last night. I won't forget this experience. I am so happy also that I pre-ordered the cd's from last night's event, it's the best gift I have ever given myself.
I was also at the concert in 1992 and I remember that the sound at that time was not the best.
I have initiated my daughter to the music of Phil Collins, hoping she may be as big of a fan as I am. She was also with me at Phil's farewell tour in Montreal. She also admits that she had a wonderful time.
Keep up the excellent music!
