Columbus, Ohio says, "THANK YOU!!!!"What an awesome night!!!
I had purchased these tickets in the Spring and it was definately a long wait but well worth it!! My dh and I headed out tonight and found a parking garage near the concert venue, parked, and started walking. I am looking around and for the most part all I see are "forty something" people making their way to the arena. Some of the "old ones" had brought their teenage kids with them. The people in attendance spanned the ages from teens to "60 somethings". My teens were kind of bummed I did not get tickets for them also, but I wanted a night out alone with my dh. We get to the Arena and find our seats. We were in the upper bowl looking almost straight on. The music started and the next thing I know, tears are just running down my face. I realize that one of my lifetime goals has come true. I am sitting at a Genesis concert!!! Phil knowing that the OSU football team has won another game a couple hours before the concert, starts in with the OH-IO cheer with the crowd. The crowd ate it up. Phil has fun and plays with us during the concert. The crowd was having a ball with the "Fan Cam" zoning in on the unexpected until they realize their mugs are up on the large screen. At one point, it looked like Dana Tyler showed up in a shot. Jokes were also made about "all of us old people" in attendance(hey, I'm only in my early 40's-LOL). The choice of songs was awesome spanning through all the years of Genesis!!! The accoustics in the arena were great along with the light/video show!! Everyone in the band seemed "on" and was giving 110% of themselves!! The drum and guitar spotlights/solos were fantastic!! I just didn't want the night to end.
Genesis, thanks for a "Rockin" night!!
Also, thank you Phil for your music, and for touching my soul. You will always have a special place in my heart!!

A friend and I went to the Columbus show last night. We're from the Pittsburgh area, but a Pittsburgh date wasn't announced in the first group of dates and we didn't want to risk missing the show! The show was great! Instead of repeating the words that others have used to describe previous shows, I'll just pass on some observations:
-The people around us seemed into a lot of the older material. There's hope yet! :)
-Nice mix of older and newer songs. I tried to ignore the published set list, and was happy to see Phil behind the drum kit for Follow You Follow Me. Actually, it was great seeing him spend quite a bit of time on the drums! Doesn't it seem like he has more energy/enthusiasm than he did with the We Can't Dance Tour?
-My friend thought that they were playing a loop of Tony's stoic expression all through Land of Confusion! So deep in concentration and seemingly no change at all!
-Land of Confusion sounded edgier.
-Not totally surprising: when Hold on My Heart started, some woman behind us said: "This is a Phil Collins song!"
-I'm not a huge fan of the live Throwing It All Away, but it was made "better" with the shots of people up on the screen. :)
-Highlights: Ripples and more instrumentals.
-Not really a lowlight, but there was a lot of material from Invisible Touch.

Great show. (just wish it was louder though sounded fab!) I was just curious though what happened to "Duke's End," (after "Behind the Lines"" & before "Turn It On Again") & also no "Cinema Show" at all either. They were both supposed to be excerpts I thought & the latter was supposed to be sandwiched in between "In the Cage" & "Duke's Travels" I thought. Half the setlist was to my liking though I really though three tunes (& even one for part of the two song encore) off WCD was a little excessive. Something off Nursery Cryme & foxtrot would have been nice too & really surprised nothing off Abacab; even like the title track or "Man On the Corner" or something. Though it was interesting if anybody else noticed, that when the show was over & people were filing out they were actually playing "Fading Lights."Was amazing Phil knew about the Ohio State Buckeyes just winning their football game at Ohio Stadium (which holds over 100,000 & incidentally where Genesis last played Columbus in '92) that same exact day. Also was pretty wild how Phil knew they played The Agora Theater in Columbus in '73. (though I always thought that was in Cleveland where I'm also seeing Genesis again next week too) Somebody must have told him that stuff beforehand as he certainly couldn't have just known it offhand.
lol
Got a cool bootleg shirt outside the show for $15.00, (inside were $40.00) keychain for $5.00, program for $30.00 & poster for $10.00. I almost missed the table with the posters, laminates, blinkeys & keyclips. Anybody know why they don't mix that in with the regular merchandise too? They also had a lithograph with the Nursery Cryme & Foxtrot figures & other stuff. (& a totebag with A Trick Of the Tail On It) Also, anybody gotten any of the official bootlegs from the show? Seems pretty cool, though you'd have to be out of your mind to buy the whole 22 show set for like $940.00 or something, especially when they're not like The Grateful Dead or some other jam band & play the same show every night on a tour like most other bands too. I would like to at least get the Columbus & Cleveland shows though. Can't wait to see 'em again next Saturday. I only had seen 'em once before & it's taken fifteen years so I guess I'll see 'em twice in a week seeing as you never know if this will happen again & according to Phil it won't. And the lights & effects & modern technology & "the running man" (kind of reminded me of the Duke figure a bit) were really spectacular; some good eye candy to go with the music indeed. They also had a nice pre & post show on the classic rock station (I think 96.3) in Columbus with plenty of Genesis before & after the show, quite a treat. Saturday was truly special & magical & won't forget it for a long time & fortunately still have next week's Genesis show to look forward to too. Was the greatest show of my year hands down & was even lucky enough to see The Police's reunion tour too but this even topped that somehow.

My first G show was abso-frakkin-lutely great! I've seen Phil a bunch of times but was especially thrilled to be in the same room as Tony (heart and soul of Genesis) Banks. And he looked happy!! Loved that Tony head bop. LOLSeriously, since I had nothing to compare to, I won't. (and for you naysayers, suffice it to say I'm not listening, and therefore can't be baited.) I'm glad to read the good reviews and the one from the Columbus Dispatch was favorable. I would pretty much say "ditto" to that. I would also say ditto to Colleen's and John's reviews.
As for song choices, I think we've beat that dead horse. Oh wait, he's still breathing. :P
There were only a couple of songs that I would have added to the list, but I'm not complaining at all. They played what people wanted to hear (the ones that like the pop stuff), and they threw us old farts a couple of bones. I think we got a pretty good mix.
Talking with someone after the show, she expressed the opinion that the show wasn't as good as Philly. Since she wasn't actually at the Philly show, I pretty much told her to STHU and move on and get over it. Unless someone has personal experience with both venues, then there's excuse to compare. It's like apples and oranges! :P Had to put my fingers in my ears before she ruined it for me. (yes, Leppy, you're right) She had made the mistake of reading and believing everything that was posted on the forum. LOL (and it's okay, she knows how I feel about this)
Ugh, I'm rambling, I gotta get my piccies online and I'll share that link when I do. I would invite everyone else to do the same. Post your photobucket/photo site link in the link section of the yahoogroups site.
I have nothing to say except I had a great time, and am looking forward to Chicago-only a week away!
